Markus Perola, MD, PhD, Research Professor
Dr. Markus Perola MD, PhD, is a Research Professor at the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL), Finland. He is leading a research team focusing on the genomics and other omics in relevance to common human traits, personalised medicine and biobanking. He is also the vice-director of the Clinical and Molecular Metabolism Research Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki. He is the Chief Scientific Officer of the THL biobank, the largest population-based biobank in Finland. He is the Chair of the FinnGen Study Steering Committee and the WG10 co-leader in the 1+MG-project. He is the president of the Ethical Board of the Helsinki University Hospital and a member of European Society of Human Genetics Public and Professional Policy Committee. His publication list includes over 400 original articles, and he is listed in the Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Scientists. Dr. Perola is also a Consultant in Public Health Medicine and a practicing physician in HUS Helsinki University Hospital.
