Brian Healey Bird
Dr Brian Healey Bird FRCPI is a Consultant Medical Oncologist in Bon Secours Hospital Cork, Ireland’s largest private hospital. He is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Education in the School of Medicine, University College Cork, where he was awarded the President’s Prize for Individual Excellence in teaching. He specializes in GI malignancies, lung cancer and lymphoma and has recruited patients to clinical trials in all these malignancies.
He was clinical lead on a Science Foundation Ireland Electrochemotherapy device development grant. His research interests are in novel immunotherapy biomarkers including the faecal microbiome. In collaboration with his laboratory colleagues in UCC he is Chief Investigator of a microbiome study funded through Science Foundation Ireland and Breakthrough Cancer Research. He has spoken at European meetings and published on Total Neoadjuvant Therapy for rectal cancer.
His rescue dog has had germline DNA sequencing and is acknowledged in some of his papers. In his spare time, he sails dinghies and is learning how to run sailboat races. bbird@bonsecours.ie @DrHealeyBird
