Marianne Jarfelt is a paediatric oncologist with clinical experience at the Paediatric Oncology Centre in Gothenburg since 1994. In 2006, she was awarded her doctorate for her thesis, entitled “Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia – Late Effects in Young Adult Survivors.” In 2019, she was appointed as an associate professor. She currently occupies a leading position at the long-term follow-up clinic for adult survivors of childhood cancer clinic in Gothenburg, which she established in 2012.
From 2012 to 2019, she served as chair of SALUB (Swedish Association for Long-Term Follow-up of Childhood Cancer). In addition, she chaired the initial two National Guidelines for Long-Term Follow-up in Sweden, which led to the establishment of Long-term follow-up clinics at six university hospitals. Furthermore, this resulted in the establishment of a structured transition to adult care, comprising dedicated transition clinics with scheduled visits at 13, 17 and 18 years for all childhood cancer survivors.
